MANGALURU: A seven-year-old boy from Amaramudnur village in Sullia taluk died of pericarditis, a swelling and irritation of the thin, saclike tissue surrounding the heart, called pericardium.
The deceased is Mokshith KC, the son of Chandrashekhara Acharya, and a class II student of Kukkujadka Govt LPS, Amaramudnur village, in Sullia. The boy, who had fever, collapsed after participating in the Karnataka Rajyotsava celebrations on Tuesday. Though his father took him to a hospital in Sullia, he failed to respond to treatment.
DHO Dr Kishore Kumar M said that he has sought a report from the taluk medical officer of Sullia, on the boy’s death. “I have spoken to the doctors, who attended to the boy, and have gone through the postmortem report. The boy suffered from pericarditis, an inflammation of heart, leading to cardiac arrest.
According to the postmortem, the boy’s heart was filled with fluid. Pericarditis is an inflammation of the pericardium, and a rare disease that affects the functioning of the heart. The boy was suffering from fever a few days ago, but it had subsided on Tuesday,” he said.
