Bid to dupe 2 Congress leaders with ticket lure in Gujarat: Offence filed
Two leaders got separate calls from conmen identifying themselves as personal assistants of senior party leaders
VADODARA: Cybercrime sleuths in the city booked unidentified persons for attempting to dupe politicians under the pretext of giving them poll tickets for the upcoming assembly elections in the state.
According to the police, two Congress leaders got separate calls from the conmen who identified themselves as personal assistants of senior party leaders. “On October 22, Congress councillor Chandrakant Shrivastava got a call from a man who identified himself as Kanikshka Singh, PA of Rahul Gandhi,” the police said.
Singh started a conversation with Shrivastava about the Raopura assembly seat and the next day he again called the Congress councillor.
This time Singh asked Shrivastava to send his resume and later sent a Whatsapp message mentioning Priyanka Gandhi’s email id. Singh never called back.
On October 2, former Vadodara Member of Parliament (MP) and Congress leader, Satyajitsinh Gaekwad too got a similar message from a conman identifying himself as Singh.
The accused told Gaekwad that some observers of Rahul Gandhi’s team were to arrive in the city secretly. Singh asked Gaekwad to bear their expenses if he wanted to get the poll ticket and even asked him to transfer money to two different bank accounts.
Gaekwad, though, was alert and didn’t transfer any amount, and later approached the police. The police said that they are investigating the case on the basis of the number through which the accused made the calls and messages.
It is suspected that the accused may be in the know of the political developments and hence is trying to dupe the politicians under the garb of giving poll tickets.
