Pawar flies to Shirdi from Mumbai hospital for NCP meet; says his party workers will bring 'political change'

Nationalist Congress party (NCP) president Sharad Pawar, who has been undergoing treatment in a Mumbai hospital since the last few days, on Saturday flew to Shirdi from there to attend his party's meeting, where he expressed confidence that the party workers would bring 'political change' in the state. Pawar has been undergoing treatment at the Breach Candy hospital in Mumbai for an infection and fever. On Saturday afternoon, he flew to Shirdi town in Ahmednagar district of Maharashtra to take part in his party's meeting. He was flown in a helicopter from the Mahalaxmi Race Course in the state capital and was accompanied by a team of doctors.

SC panel to trace kin of missing ’93 riot victims who didn’t get payout

Observing that it violates the fundamental right to life if citizens are forced to live under the atmosphere of communal tension and it is the right of people to seek compensation from the government for any loss due to communal violence, the Supreme Court on Friday passed a slew of directions to ensure that families affected in 1992-93 Mumbai riots are compensated. It set up a committee to trace those not given compensation, including families of 108 missing persons who have not been granted relief so far as they could not be traced. Abench of Justices Sanjay Kishan Kaul, Abhay S Oka and Vikram Nath said it is the failure of state authorities not to control violence and the government had to compensate for the loss of life and property.

Maharashtra on Friday recorded 230 Covid-19 cases and one death, which took the state's tally to 81,32,954 and the toll to 1,48,391, a health official said. The addition to the tally is a dip from the 259 cases reported on Thursday, he pointed out.
