Film Bazaar to make comeback in physical format at Iffi this year
Panaji: After a gap during the pandemic, the National Film Development Corporation’s (NFDC) ‘Film Bazaar’ will be back in its physical format at the 53rd edition of the International Film Festival of India (Iffi). The Bazaar will be held alongside Iffi, which is being hosted by Goa from November 20 to 28.
The process of online delegate registration to participate in the Bazaar has already begun. The process to register to participate at the Film Bazaar is separate from the delegate registration for Iffi’s film screenings.
Though being held physically again, the Film Bazaar will also allow participation virtually.
This year, the Film Bazaar, in addition to having different country pavilions, will also have state pavilions to promote them as shooting destinations.
“In commemoration of India’s 75 Years of Independence, Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, this year’s edition of Iffi aims to promote India as a global content hub. Film Bazaar will therefore play host to countries from across the world, including those who have a bilateral treaty with India on co-productions. For the first time, the market area for film offices, which hosts state government and promotes their locations will also include the pavilions for countries, states as well as private organizations,” the NFDC has said.
While Iffi’s focus is on screening and discussions on cinema, Film Bazaar deals with the commercial aspects of filmmaking. Film Bazaar will be hosted at a separate venue near the festival venue from November 20 to 24.
Besides the delegates participating for Iffi, another more than 1,000 delegates from 35 countries are expected to take part in Film Bazaar this year.
“Film Bazaar is the largest South Asian Film Market. Throughout the five-day Bazaar, the emphasis is on discovering, cultivating, supporting, and showcasing films from the South-Asian cinematic realm,” the organisers have said.
