NOIDA: A
BJP member and close aide of Noida MP Mahesh Sharma was allegedly beaten up by seven to eight people in the Beta-2 area of Greater Noida on Thursday evening.
Sanchit Sharma alias Singga Pandit, the victim, runs a construction firm and resides in Greater Noida. He was arrested in August for allegedly “promoting enmity” after he was purportedly heard abusing members of the Tyagi community and top officers of Noida police.
In his complaint, BJP local mandal president Mahesh Sharma (same name as the MP’s) claimed that he, along with Sanchit and another BJP worker, was heading towards Yatharth hospital when their SUV was intercepted by a Scorpio near Kendriya Vihar on Thursday evening.
“Some seven to eight people got out of the Scorpio and thrashed Sanchit with sticks and fled. We somehow managed to escape,” he told the cops.
“I immediately made a call to the DCP and asked for help. A team from the Beta-2 police station reached the spot and Sanchit was rushed to hospital,” he added.
Based on the complaint, an FIR under sections 307 (attempt to murder), 147 (rioting), 148 (rioting with deadly weapon), 149 (unlawful assembly) and 342 (wrongful confinement) of Indian Penal Code (IPC) was lodged.
“Sanchit suffered injuries on his legs. Four teams have been formed and footage of CCTV cameras are being checked to identify the miscreants. We will nab them at the earliest and strict action will be taken against them,” additional deputy commissioner of police (Greater Noida) Vishal Pandey said.
On Friday, the local MP visited Sanchit in the hospital. “One of our party members has multiple fractures in his leg. Police must identify and arrest the culprits at the earliest,” Sharma said.
