BERHAMPUR: Mayor of Berhampur Municipal Corporation (BeMC) and several corporators on Friday adopted tuberculosis (TB) patients in their wards under the government’s Nikshay Mitra Scheme. The scheme was launched in September last year to eradicate tuberculosis in the country and provides free diet/nutrition to patients.
In an awareness meeting organised by the district TB cell here, mayor Sanghamitra Dalai and her husband Bhimasen Dalai announced to adopt two patients each. She also urged other corporators and others to adopt patients and eradicate tuberculosis by 2025.
Altogether 3,340 TB patients are undergoing treatment in the district and 181 of them are in Berhampur, said Abani Kant Patra, district tuberculosis officer.
Of them, 850 patients in the district and 20 from Berhampur have been adopted , he said. “We target to take all patients under the ambit of the new scheme,” the officer added.
