PANAJI: The crime branch of Goa police arrested a Goan, Ravi Laxman Naik, 34, on Friday for cultivating cannabis within his residential premises at Moira and seized narcotics worth over Rs 10 lakh. The accused had grown five cannabis plants and planned on selling the narcotic produce within the state instead of having to procure it from outside.
Based on a tip-off, the crime branch team headed by police inspector Manguesh Valvaikar conducted a raid at Naik’s residence at Moira and seized from his possession flowering and fruiting tops of the cannabis plant suspected to be ganja weighing 5kg.
The team also seized 1kg of a blackish colour sticky substance suspected to be charas.
Valvaikar said that the accused procures narcotic substances from outside the state and wanted to stop this and instead produce it himself.
