Class II student gets strangled mysteriously

Ludhiana: A 6-year-old Class II student of Government Primary School, Sunet village was found unconscious near the school bathroom on Friday afternoon. It is alleged that the boy was swinging with a rope and accidently strangulated himself. The school staff rushed him to Dayanand Medical College and Hospital (DMCH), where his condition has been stated critical.
The student has been identified as Mohammad Mehfooz, of Sunet village. His relatives complained that school authorities did not inform them on time and alleged that someone had strangled the child. Inspector Satbir Singh, SHO, Sarabha Nagar police station said that according to the school staff, the boy went to the bathroom in the afternoon. When he did not return, the school staff started searching for him. They found him unconscious near the bathroom, following which they rushed him to Raghunath Hospital, Ferozepur Road. From there, the doctors referred him to DMC hospital and informed his parents.
Chirag, the victim’s father, said that when Mehfooz did not come home, they reached the school to search for him and came to know about the incident. Thereafter, they reached the hospital and noticed strangulation marks around his neck.
School headmaster, Harjeet Singh said that he was present at his office when a teacher, Harpreet Kaur, told him about the boy found unconscious. He said he rushed him to hospital and is also paying for his treatment. However, he said he was unaware of why he fell unconscious.
Inspector Satbir said police visited the spot and found that some construction work was going on in the school for which ropes were being used. They said that prima facie, it appeared that the boy was swinging with the rope and accidently entwined it around his neck. Also, CCTV cameras are installed in the school and that particular area is not under CCTV surveillance.
Police said that the boy was on ventilator in critical condition. Last month, a Class III student of Government Primary Smart school, Lalheri village, Khanna fell into a 30-feet deep pit in the school. A worker present at the spot heard his cries and rescued him.
