JAIPUR: The 1989-batch Indian Police Service (IPS) officer Umesh Mishra on Thursday took charge as the director general (DG) of Rajasthan police. Talking to TOI, Mishra said that his priorities include tackling the menace of organised crime and cyber fraud in the state. He also said that helping weaker sections will be on the top of his list.
“My focus will be to control crimes against weaker sections like women, children, scheduled castes, and scheduled tribes,” Mishra added. He received a guard of honour at the police headquarters, and later the outgoing DGP M L Lather gave him the police baton. Mishra was earlier posted as additional DGP (ADGP) of the intelligence wing. He has held other important postings as inspector general (IG) and superintendent of police (SP) in different ranges and districts of Rajasthan.
Mishra also said that the Rajasthan police will work on improving the police image, and strengthening the functioning of police stations. “It is important to understand that a police station is a basic unit of our functioning. Therefore, it is of paramount importance these units operate properly like giving a patient hearing to people, quick disposal of complaints etc. People should not dread approaching a police station,” he said, adding that a greater emphasis would be laid on improving the functioning of police stations in the state.
