Coimbatore: The city corporation on Thursday launched work to set up a park at Pullukadu near Ukkadam at a cost of 15 lakh.
The park has been a long-pending demand of the residents, who petitioned corporation commissioner M Prathap and city police commissioner V Balakrishnan two months ago.
The facility will be set up under Namakku Naame Thittam scheme.
Councillor of ward 86 Ahamed Kabeer said that the residents have been demanding a facility, where children can play safely under the supervision of parents. “There is no park in the area that can be used by children. The nearest one is not maintained well and people are not using it,” he said.
Foundation stone for the development of the park was laid in the presence of both the commissioners and mayor Kalpana Anandakumar.
“Residents are happy that their demand was fulfilled within two months after they raised it with the senior authorities of the police department and the corporation,” Ahamed said.
“We were surprised how fast the civic body approved the facility,” said Abdul Rabi, a resident of Anbu Nagar.
