LUDHIANA: City traffic police on Thursday issued challans to 62 underage drivers as part of a special drive kick-started last week. Till date, police have challaned 482 underage individuals.
Assistant commissioner of police (ACP) Traffic-1 Charanjiv Lamba said, “62 individuals have been challaned on Thursday and 48 of these challans have been issued under Section 199-A of the Motor Vehicles Act. The details of students and vehicles challaned will be shared with regional transport authority (RTA) to ensure they don’t get driving licence till the age of 25.”
“We are expecting zero underage riding by next week as we are taking strict action against them. The drive will continue and we will confiscate the vehicle. Schools should only allow students who have a licence to come to the schools on their own vehicles. Schools will play a big role in stopping underage driving” he added.
Traffic officials have also started an awareness drive on educating students of schools and colleges on traffic rules and they visited BVM School, Kitchlu Nagar and KVM School for the same.
