CHENNAI: Schools and colleges in Chennai district will be shut on Friday due to heavy rain. Chennai is likely to get more rain on Friday before the first spell of the monsoon subsides. Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicted heavy to very heavy rain at isolated places in some southern districts of
Tamil Nadu on Friday.
The city is likely to get more rain today before the firstspell of the monsoon will subside. The rain is triggered ny thunder clouds that is forming over the sea and are swept to the land by the northeast monsoon wind under the influence of a cyclonic circulation in the south of Bay of Bengal.
A forecast by the Met department said that "Skycondition is likely to be generally cloudy. Thunderstorm & lightning with moderate rain is likely to occur."
The rain is mostly moving into the interior parts of the state in the coming days as a forecast said heavy to very heavy rain is likely to occur at isolated places over Mayiladuthurai, Nagapattinam, Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Pudukkottai, Sivaganga, Ramanathapuram, districts of Tamil nadu and Karaikal area.
The rainfall status for the city in Nungambakkam is 35.2mm, Meenambakkam, 16.6mm, Villivakkam, 33.5mm, Sathyabama University, 31mm, ACS Medical College, 17.5mm, Anna University, 18mm, Chembarambakkam, 21mm, Nandanam, 7mm, NIOT Pallikaranai, 5mm, M R C Nagar, 0.5mm and Ennore Port, 1mm.
Private weather bloggers said that the first spell of rain brought around a month's quantity of rain in three days. The city is likely to see some spells of rain next week as conditions are becoming conducive to a depression or a cyclone.
