MGMMCH to get another building on its premises
Jamshedpur: The government-run Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Medical College and Hospital (MGMMCH) will get another G+6 building, which will come up on its premises.
East Singbhum deputy commissioner (DC) Vijaya Jadhav, who inspected the site of the proposed building on Wednesday evening, said that the hospital was in need of a new building equipped with all modern healthcare facilities.
“This is a regional hospital that caters to a large number of people. People from adjoining Odisha and Bengal also come here for treatment. Expansion was long awaited. So we have started work in this regard,” the DC said.
Chief minister Hemant Soren will lay the foundation stone of the new building on November 7.
The deputy superintendent of the hospital, Dr Nakul Chaudhary, said that the building would come up in a phased manner. “All the departments, including Neonatal ICU and Paediatric ICU (PICU), will be shifted to the new building gradually once the building gets operational,” he added.
The deputy superintendent said that after the new building gets functional, the bed capacity will be increased to 750. “At present, we have a capacity of 540 beds,” he added.
He, however, did not disclose the cost and the time frame for the project.
The state-run hospital witnesses about 700 attendance in the outdoor patient ward (OPD) daily, while the beds have 75% occupancy round the year.
The MGMMCH is the only government hospital in the Kolhan division that sees patients coming from far off villages of West Singhbhum, Seraikela-Kharsawn and East Singhbhum.
The hospital has over 25 resident doctors, against the sanctioned strength of 72, and 43 junior doctors against the sanctioned strength of 90.
“The state health department is appointing doctors in a phased manner. We are expecting to increase the strength in the coming days,” Dr Chaudhary said.
He also said that new initiatives in the hospital have been introduced by the district administration.
The pass system for the visitors has been made compulsory, besides, the visiting hours has been fixed (7-8 am, 5-7 pm), and a dedicated vehicles parking zone for the visitors has come up in the past four weeks.
