Now, electric loco to haul Madurai-Kovai intercity

Coimbatore: An electric loco would now haul the Madurai-Coimbatore-Madurai intercity unreserved express train, bringing down the travel time.
The Southern Railway on Thursday said they had fitted the Madurai-Coimbatore-Madurai intercity train with the unused electric loco of Punalur-Madurai express train. Welcoming the move, J Sathish, a member of the Divisional Railway Users’ Consultative Committee, said, “The train could touch 100kmph speed only after running a certain distance before. With the electric loco, it can instantly pick up 100kmph speed.”
In another development, the trains could run at 100kmph speed on the Palani-Pollachi single-line section. Until recently, the speed was limited to 70kmph on the stretch. The move would reduce the travel time between Palani and Pollachi. tnn
