PATNA: Panic gripped the students and teachers when a 35-year-old man was gunned down by motorcycle-borne criminals on the premises of a government school in Vaishali district on Thursday.
The incident occurred around 1pm at Bhagwanpur Ratti Middle School under the Vaishali police station area when the students were studying in their classrooms. Two criminals entered the school premises while chasing a man and shot him dead. Hearing the gunshot, schoolchildren and teachers hid under the table to save their lives. The criminals, however, managed to flee.
The victim was identified as Munna Kumar, a resident of New Barbata Colony, Ramjatan Nagar under the Sonepur police station area.
Sadar sub-divisional police officer Om Prakash said two motorcycle-borne criminals committed the crime. "Munna entered the school premises by climbing the wall in a bid to save himself. He ran towards the main building by crossing the ground, but got stuck while walking towards verandah. The bullet fired by the criminals hit his head and he he died on the spot," he added.
According to eyewitnesses, Munna was on a bike with two other men. He had a verbal spat with the two, following which they started chasing him.
Munna's wife Asha Devi said her husband was asked by his father Bhagwan Rai to come to Lalganj on the pretext of sharing of property. She accused Bhagwan of killing her husband over a property dispute.
SHO of Vaishali police station Chandragupt Kumar said Munna's father and brothers are absconding.
