HAZARIBAG: A woman delivered a baby on the road outside the Hazaribag Medical College and Hospital's female ward on Wednesday after reportedly not given timely admission.
The incident happened when the state health secretary, Arun Kumar Singh, was inspecting the hospital. The child died soon after, but the hospital sources claimed that the woman delivered a stillborn.
Later, Hazaribag MLA and BJP worker Manish Jaiswal came down heavily on the hospital management and the state health department in connection with the matter and demanded that the government fixes accountability in the incident. He also claimed that his local representative tried to highlight the matter before the health secretary, but he was allegedly shown the door.
Jaiswal said, "I have been raising the issue of the shortage of woman doctors at the hospital, but nothing has been done so far. I will take up the issue during the next assembly session. There should be a probe into the matter and accountabilities must be fixed."
The woman, Nusrat Parveen, from Kud village was later admitted to the hospital for post-delivery care. The hospital management has not conducted any inquiry into the incident.
Talking to TOI on Thursday, Nusrat's husband Naushad Alam said he had requested authorities at the female ward to admit her but none listened to his pleas. "Had she got timely admission, my child would have been saved," he said.
While Hazaribag DC Nancy Sahay did not take calls, hospital superintendent Dr Vinod Kumar .denied the allegations of lapses. "No probe has been instituted. I have not received any written complaint from anyone," he added.
