Chanda couple held for selling brown sugar

Chandrapur: The local police seized 38gm brown sugar, worth over Rs1 lakh, from a house near Bagla Square in the city on Wednesday and arrested a couple.
Though the police have arrested Shyam Dupare and his wife Rekha, their son and main accused Ajay, 27, is absconding.
Sources said city police station in-charge Sudhakar Ambhore got a tip-off about brown sugar being sold from a house near the newly built railway over bridge (ROB) at Bagla Square in the city. Accordingly, a team led by API Jaiprakash Nirmal raided the house and seized 38gm brown sugar. The team arrested Dupare couple from the place.
PI Ambhore claimed Ajay, who lived separately, procured the drugs, which his parents used to sell from their house.
Ajay already has a Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act-1985 case registered against him. He was also an accused in a murder case.
The police also raided Ajay’s house, but failed to find him or any drugs there.
