Smart makeover: Waiting time to reduce at major traffic junctions soon
Ludhiana: In the coming few months, important traffic junctions will be equipped with intelligent traffic management system (ITMS) and adaptive traffic control system (ATCS) in order to improve traffic conditions in the city. Smart timers will help in automatic increase and decrease in the waiting time depending on the volume of vehicles at that particular junction.
MC commissioner Shena Aggarwal held a meeting in regard and directed the Smart City consultants to start preparing a project report.
The officials claimed that the move will support proper management of traffic, minimum waiting time at junctions for commuters and save fuel which will be beneficial for citizens. The timing of traffic lights will be managed automatically through traffic count sensors, and it will also have manual override mode in case of any emergencies.
It was also decided to operationalise automatic traffic violation detection which will act as a deterrent for violators and will imbibe a sense towards maintaining and following traffic rules and regulations.
The MC officials claimed that initially, the system would be installed at 40 to 45 locations, including Jagraon bridge, Bharat Nagar chowk, Durga Mata Mandir chowk, Bhai Bala Chowk, Kaka Marriage palace chowk, Malhar road, Dugri chowk, Veer palace, Vardhman chowk, Dholewal chowk. They claimed that this new system will be implemented in the city by March 2023.
