BMC to shut key Andheri bridge for 2 yrs

The BMC, in a sudden move, has proposed the closure of the east-west Gopal Krishna Gokhale bridge in Andheri for 2 years from Monday for repair and reconstruction, reports Richa Pinto. Meanwhile, it has come to light that CAG, in its report to the civic chief a few months ago, had pointed out the BMC had awarded the work of providing temporary support from the base to the bridge in 2019 to a contractor without inviting tenders. The move came after a portion of the bridge crashed in 2018 and it was felt necessary to support the superstructure as a precautionary step.
