Former Brajrajnagar MLA Anup Sai gets bail in twin murder case

JHARSUGUDA: The Chhattisgarh high court on Thursday granted bail to former Brajrajnagar MLA Anup Sai, who was serving a life sentence for the murder of 35-year-old woman and her daughter in 2016. Sai was sentenced in April 2022 by Raigarh sessions judge while his driver, Bardhan Toppo, was acquitted.
Raigarh Police arrested Sai (61) and his driver in February 2020 on charges of murdering Kalpana Das and her daughter inside a forest at Hamirpur in Raigarh district of Chhattisgarh on May 7, 2016.
Kalpana, a native of Brajrajnagar, had come in contact with Sai after her divorce and had been staying at his three-storied flat in Bhubaneswar along with her daughter. Reports claimed the woman had been pressing Sai to marry her and that resulted in the death of Das and her daughter.
