KALYAN: At least 5,000 people residing at Kalyan's private Deshmukh homes complex are going to get relief from water scarcity as the Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation (KDMC) has taken initiative to add new pipeline connection.
Situated in Kalyan (east), Deshmukh complex has 1,312 flats. However, for last two years, residents are facing water shortage issue. Residents claim that they get insufficient drinking water supply from the KDMC and have to depend on private water tankers for which they even have to spend huge money.
Due to water scarcity, locals have several times protested against KDMC as well as MIDC which supplies water.
Last month, under the leadership of ex-corporator Kunal Patil, locals had blocked Kalyan-Shilphata road. Following that, KDMC swung into action. On Thursday, KDMC team starred a work of laying new pipeline for the complex from another main line.
Dipesh Mahatre, ex-standing committee chairman of KDMC claimed, "The water supply department has started laying new pipeline from another main line pipeline and in next 10 to 15 days, residents will get upto 50% extra water supply and in future, problem will be resolved permanently by taking some more steps."
However, resident doubt if KDMC's move will resolve their problems.
Vandana Sonawane, a resident from complex said, "The water supply department is just changing pipeline connection from one line to another main line, and I doubt it will resolve supply. If KDMC is really concerned about resolving our water scarcity problems, then they should give connection from booster line side situated near Pingara bar from where they have given connection to many new housing complexes who are getting sufficient water."
