MANDYA: Following charges of high-handedness levelled against police in Mandya city, district superintendent of police N Yatish on Thursday ordered a probe to look into these complaints. Yatish said that the Mandya sub-division deputy SP had been tasked with investigating the complaint, and file a report. The order for a probe comes on the wake of a tweet of a video uploaded by former chief minister
HD Kumaraswamy.
In the video, the man riding a bike, his wife, and child, were stopped by Mandya police, and harassed, despite the couple informing the cops that they were bound for the hospital. In the afternoon on Thursday, Abhishek from Yaguchaguppe in KR Pete taluk, was heading to the district hospital in Mandya city with his wife, and six-month-old infant, was stopped for violation of traffic laws near Mahaveera Circle. Traffic cops who waylaid Abhishek took the keys to the bike, and allowed him to resume the journey only after he paid a fine.
All the while he was pleading with the cops, his wife had to sit clutching her child on the pavement. Since Abhishek did not have enough money to pay the fine, he called a friend, and had the money transferred to him, which he subsequently drew from an ATM kiosk. After the video went viral on social media, Kumaraswamy tweeted the video, and urged the government to act against the personnel.
