DK district BJP president walks the talk, admits his children to govt school
Mangaluru: BJP district president Sudarshan Moodbidri has decided to walk the talk. On several occasions, Sudarshan has spoken about protecting Kannada government schools.
Despite all his relatives and friends sending their children to private English-medium schools, Sudarshan has admitted his two sons to the 153-year-old Government Higher Primary School Moodbidri Main. Next year, his youngest son will also join his brothers at the government school.
Sudarshan said, “I strongly believe that it is important for children to be educated in their mother tongue. I have gone deep into this subject, and felt that it is crucial for children to study in their mother tongue, between six and 14 years of age, as their understanding about the subjects would be better. Also on several platforms, we have been stressing on the importance of protecting government schools, and I felt it is important to practise what we preach. I told my wife Hemavathi, and convinced her that our children will study only in a government school. These days, most government schools are on par with any private school, in terms of providing quality education,” he said.
Sudarshan’s father and Sudarshan studied in the same school. At present, his elder son Hrudayesha is in class V, and Krupesha is in class III. Next year, his youngest son Chiranjivisha will seek admission to the same school.
“Teachers in government schools go out of their way to ensure that the school records good admissions. In a way, we need to support them. There are also instances of parents, despite having financial difficulties, sending their children to private schools. The biggest advantage of sending children to a government school, is that they grow up with children from different backgrounds, who are often poor, and understand their problems, which will probably help them develop as better individuals,” said Sudarshan, who plans to take up school infrastructure development works through public support, and MLA and MP funds.
