Coimbatore: A section of villagers from Subbarayanpudur in Karumathampatti municipality in the district blocked the Somanur-Tirupur Road on Wednesday, condemning the Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation (TNSTC) and private bus operators for not operating buses to their village.
The trigger for the protest was the skipping of the village by a private bus on Tuesday night in which a pregnant woman belonging to the village travelled. The pregnant woman had to walk a kilometre to reach her village.
The villagers said a TNSTC town bus and a private bus used to stop at the village. But the two buses had skipped the village for the last few months. The villagers were forced to walk for a kilometre to catch a bus at Sedarpalayam. TNN
