Man beaten to death following squabble
Kanpur: A 40-year-old man was brutally beaten to death allegedly by his brother-in-law on Tuesday night following a squabble over the latter mistreating his wife in Juhi police area of the city.
Accused Sajid was arrested on Tuesday in connection with the murder, said inspector Jitendra Singh. He has been booked under sections 302 (murder), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) and 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
Sajid, who lives in Kakoni Hata in the area, is an alcoholic and would frequently pick up fights with his wife. "The fights between the couple were primarily over Sajid's alcohol addiction. He (Sajid) would mercilessly beat up his wife in an inebriated condition," the inspector said.
Late on Tuesday evening, someone informed Guddu and his wife Reshma that their brother-in-law Sajid was attacking his wife Asma. Soon, Guddu and Reshma reached the spot and approached Sajid and asked him to mend his ways. Sajid, who was in an inebriated state, started abusing the duo for interfering in his family matters and later attacked Guddu when he tried to reason with him.
"Sajid attacked Guddu repeatedly with a rod on his vital body parts," the police said, adding that Guddu was taken to Ursula hospital where doctors declared him dead.
Following Reshma's complaint, Sajid was arrested later when he was fleeing following the incident, the police said.
