Chennai rain: Govt school faces inundation, announces holiday for students

CHENNAI: A government girls school in Chennai's Ashok Nagar area on Thursday announced a holiday for students after its ground was inundated in rainwater.
The school has 4,000 students studying from classes VI to XII. There was no way for them to walk to the classes.
The Greater Chennai Corporation deployed two motor pumps to remove water from the school ground.
The school is located in a low-lying area. When it rains heavily, water from the road enters the school. According to officials, every year the school ground is inundation due to its terrain and they use motor to remove water.
Officials said by 6 pm, the water would be removed. The motors would be stationed there till the rainy season was over, they added.
