Ludhiana: A truck parked on the road ended up causing a fatal mishap, snuffing out two lives in the process. The victims were travelling in an SUV, which rammed the truck near Basti Jodhewal crossing on Ludhiana-Delhi National Highway in the early hours on Tuesday. Another person was injured in the accident.
The deceased were identified as Satpal, 30, of Alwar of Rajasthan and Bunty Kumar, 35, of Bebani area in Haryana. Yogesh Kumar of Mahendergarh of
Haryana was injured. All three worked for a road construction contractor from Haryana.
In his statement, Yogesh said their company had got a contract of constructing roads in Srinagar. They were returning from Jammu & Kashmir in the company’s Mahindra Bolero (HR35L4215) when the incident occurred.
Yogesh said while Satpal was driving the car, Bunty was sitting on the front seat along side the driver. He was sitting on the rear seat of the SUV. Around 3am, their vehicle crashed into a truck parked on the road near Basti Jodhewal chowk. The truck was not visible as it neither switched on the parking lights, nor it had reflectors.
The collision was so impactful that the roof of the Bolero was damaged. The onlookers called for an ambulance and took the injured to a hospital where doctors declared Bunty and Satpal dead. Yogesh was admitted in the hospital.
ASI Bhupinder Singh, investigating officer, Jodhewal police station, said truck driver Rahul of Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, has been arrested and a case has been registered against him under Sections 279 (Rash driving or riding on a public way), 337 (causing hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others), 338 (Causing grievous hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others), 304-A (causing death by negligence), 427 (mischief causing damage to the amount of fifty rupees) of the Indian Penal Code.
Accroding to the driver, the truck had developed a technical snag due to which it was parked on the road, the cop added.
