Berhampur: Excise personnel in the city unearthed a fake manufacturing unit of India-made foreign liquor (IMFL) unit at Ankuli during a raid on Wednesday and seized huge quantities of spurious alcohol.
Two persons — identified as Sushant Padhy (29) of Ramahari Nagar and N Pappeya (50) of Mandaberi near Patrapur, have been arrested. “While Padhy was the owner of the illegal unit, Pappeya was in charge of selling the duplicate liquor,” Eamendra Narayan Nayak, Berhampur’s excise superintendent, said.
As many as 200 bottles (180ml each) of liquor, 24 litres of homeopathic spirits (used for making the liquor), around 7,000 brands of liquor, 5,000 duplicate corks and 3,000 stickers of different brands were seized during the raid. Two motorcycles used in transporting the liquor were also seized.
“Samples of the seized liquor will be sent to the excise department’s divisional lab to test if they are spurious,” Nayak said. TNN
