On Monday, Richard Toomer succeeded Kurt Janson as the executive director of the organisation, which stands for over 65 trade organisations across inbound, outbound and the domestic tourism.

Toomer’s undertaking will be to work with the board and executive of Tourism Alliance, led by Tom Jenkins of Etoa, to make sure the stakeholders of tourism industry present a unified message to the parliament, government, and other policymakers, as looking for mutual understanding of the priorities and concerns of each other.

He connects with the organization from the Royal Aeronautical Society. There he was the head of external affairs; he has exposure of working in parliament, having formerly held rules and communications roles with pilots union Balpa.

Jenkins said that the industry is experiencing many issues. Across the sector, recruitment is the most important intricate area. Energy costs are intimidating the viability of many businesses related to hospitality, just as consumers crisis related to cost of living.

Jenkins also added that for inbound tourism, the prospect of a weak pound is supporting, however, school group restrictions coming from Europe remove the UK of vital export earnings. The visa offering of the UK is not competitive, internationally, both in terms of price and bureaucratic burden.

And after the turnaround of the VAT decision of the chancellor, high-value customers at present are going to be shopping somewhere else. Richard has a full in-tray; to undertake it, courtesy of Kurt, he has the support of the entire tourism industry.
