Coimbatore: The Coimbatore police have planned to create a database of members of Muslim outfits.
Police will distribute a 25-point questionnaire seeking details among members of Muslim outfits to collect information, police commissioner V Balakrishnan said. “We have received a list of 50 sympathisers of banned outfits from the state intelligence agency. We are monitoring them.”
M Mohammed Nowfal, 37, former state public relations officer of National Confederation of Human Rights Organisation (NCHRO), a banned outfit, said that he was asked to visit the Kuniyamuthur police station last Monday. “Inspector Ganeshan gave me a questionnaire that had 25 questions, seeking information about me, my parents, my occupation, educational qualifications and details of the organisation I was associated with. The cops collected details about profiles on Facebook, WhatsApp, Telegram and
Instagram. They also collected details of bank accounts,” Mohammed told TOI.
A police team raided Mohammed’s house at Green Park at Karumbukadai on Tuesday.
“The database will contain details of leaders of Muslim outfits, radicalized youths and fundamentalists. Their social media accounts will be analysed with the help of cybercrime police,” a police officer said.
The Coimbatore rural police is also planning to create a database after collecting details of leaders of Muslim outfits in Pollachi, Thudiyalur and Mettupalayam.
