MUMBAI: Voting for the Andheri (East) assembly bypoll will be held on Thursday between 7am and 6pm. The counting is on November 6.
Though BJP's Murji Patel withdrew his candidature last month, there are a total seven candidates in the fray, including the Shiv Sena (UBT)'s Rutuja Latke, widow of sitting Sena MLA Ramesh Latke.
"There are a total of 256 polling stations for the bypoll. Of these, 239 polling stations are on the ground floor and the remaining 17 are on the first floor, but lift facilities are available. Wheelchairs have also been arranged at all places," said an official, adding that in Andheri (East) constituency, 99.96% of voters have their voter ID cards.
Besides Rutuja, Bala Nadar (Aapki Apni Party), Manoj Kumar Nayak (Right to Recall Party), Neena Khedekar (Independent), Farhan Syed (Independent), Milind Kamble (Independent), and Rajesh Tripathi (Independent) are in the fray.
Latke died in May 2022 due to a heart attack. Before becoming an MLA, he was a three-time corporator in the BMC. Latke first became an MLA in 2014. In 2019, he defeated BJP rebel-turned-Independent candidate Patel. In the 2019 assembly polls, Latke had won with 62,773 votes. Patel had polled 45,000 votes and Congress's Amin Kutty close to 28,000 votes.
