HYDERABAD: Task Force sleuths apprehended three alleged hawala operators and seized Rs 1.27 crore cash from their possession on Wednesday.
On a tip-off, a Task Force team intercepted a scooterist in front of Raymond showroom at Liberty crossroads on Tuesday night and seized Rs 1.27 crore cash from the rider, K Phani Kumar Raju.
On interrogation, Raju confessed that he has been working as a cash collection agent for businessman Manne Srinivas, 53, of Tulsunagar colony in Golnaka area of Amberpet.
Raju told the police that he had collected the cash from hawala operators Srinivas and Vishwanath Chetty. "While Raju was en route to hand over the cash to one Paramal at Kavadiguda on the instructions of Srinivas, our team apprehended him," Task Force officer on special duty (OSD) P Radha Kishan Rao said.
Based on information given by Raju, police picked up Srinivas from Golnaka and Viswanath from Osmangunj. Srinivas runs a consumer goods distribution business and Vishwanath is an LPG distributor. As Srinivas and Viswanath Chetty were unable to provide proper documents for the cash they had given to Raju, Task Force police handed over the money to Narayanguda police.
