Biker dies in collision with car on Lakhimpur bypass
Guwahati: A 36-year-old man died when the bike he was riding collided with a four-wheeler coming from the opposite direction on Wednesday. The incident took place at Rangajan Chariali on the Lakhimpur bypass.
Sources said the car unknowingly dragged the biker for roughly a mile, following which he died on the spot.
The deceased has been identified as Nur Islam, son of Ahmed Ali of Chaboti village in North Lakhimpur.
Angry locals thrashed the driver, Tajom Koze, a resident of Arunachal Pradesh. There were two more passengers inside the car, the sources said.
The police later reached the spot and rescued all the three persons. Bhaskar Kalita, OC of Lakhimpur police station, said, “The mob would have lynched them had we not resorted to blank firing in the air to disperse the crowd.” The driver has been arrested and will be produced in court on Thursday.
