THANE: A 6-year-old boy died by drowning after falling in an open trench within the premises of an under construction building where his father was employed as a plumber, police said on Tuesday.
The incident occured late Monday when the boy who stays with his parents and kid sister on the second floor of the under construction building being developed by Mhada in the Yashaswi Nagar area in Balkum Thane, the police said.
The family hails from
Jharkhand and the two elder siblings of the deceased stayed at their native place. The boy's father works as a plumber at the site and like other workers, were given temporary accomodation at the site itself, the police informed.
"The boy had told his parents that he was going down to answer nature's call late Tuesday evening but didn't return for a long time. The worried parents later searched for him in the area and found him floating lifeless in the tank located within the building site premises," informed an official from the Kapurbawdi police station.
The parents alerted the authorities following which the unconscious boy was brought out from the tank and taken to the hopsital where he was declared dead in the early hours of Tuesday.
The police said prima facie they haven't found anything suspicious and so have registered a case of accidental death but may investigate the matter further if the family suspects any foul play.
