Prayagraj: With
Samajwadi Party (SP) and Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) locked over Muslims votes ahead of urban municipal polls, the
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday got a boost when over 75 Muslims including members of prabudh varg (elite class) \ families joined the party in presence of
BJP Mahanagar party leadership at Meeapur Mandal in the Sangam city.
BJP’s spokesman Rajesh Kesarwani told TOI, “ Many Muslim families have joined the party after being influenced by the PM
Narendra Modi and CM Yogi Adityanath’s public welfare policies”.
He added more Muslim families in old city minority dominated pockets have expressed their willingness to join the party ahead of urban municipal polls.
With this, BJP has induced many new Muslim members to spread its membership campaign in Muslim dominated pockets and volunteers of BJP minority morcha are also connecting with the minority community to bring them into party fold.
Senior party leader Ashish Gupta, meanwhile, said several Muslim families joining the BJP ahead of urban local body polls and 2024 parliamentary polls, is a positive sign for the party in city as well as state as it shows that the Muslim community believes that BJP is truely working on the theme ‘sakba sath, sabka Vikas and sabka vishwas’.
BJP is trying to woo over the Pasmanda community among Muslims, which reportedly accounts for around 70% of the Muslim population who are considered socially and economically backward.Prime Minister Narendra Modi had earlier asked party leaders to reach out to the Pasmandas for elevating their social status through implementation of various public welfare schemes.
Party had recently organised a Pasmanda Sammelan in state capital where BJP leaders impressed upon the community that while other parties merely used them as vote bank, with the claim that BJP was sincerely concerned about their welfare.
The party is also preparing to give a substantial number of tickets to Pasmanda Muslims in upcoming urban municipal polls.
