Puducherry seeks to evolve coastal management plan

PUDUCHERRY: Chief minister N Rangasamy emphasised the need for arriving at a common solution to prevent sea erosion along Puducherry and Tamil Nadu that share irregular coastal borders between Cuddalore and Marakanam and said the Puducherry government has requested the National Centre for Coastal Research (NCCR) to undertake a complete scientific study on prevention of erosion along the coast of two states and submit a comprehensive coastal management plan.
Unfurling the tricolour during the liberation day celebrations on November 1, Rangasamy said the government will execute the comprehensive coastal management plan to protect the coast and safeguard the interests of all stakeholders including the fishermen community.
Rangasamy assured that the government will disburse financial assistance of ₹1,000 per month for women (head of family) aged between 21 and 55 years living below poverty line at the earliest. He also said the government will review all 16,769 new applications for old age pensions and extend them necessary financial assistance to all eligible beneficiaries.
Rangasamy also inaugurated a massive recruitment mela for public employment during the celebrations. He said each department will issue notifications on November 2 for filling the existing vacancies. The candidates can visit http://recruitment.py.gov.in for information on vacancies, qualifications, eligibility conditions and to submit their application forms. He appealed to the youth in the territory to grab the golden opportunity to join government service.
Puducherry celebrates liberation day on November 1 every year. It was on this day in 1954 Puducherry merged with the Indian Union ending the colonial rule of the French. All the elected members of the territory voted against French rule and preferred to join the Indian Union in a referendum held on this day in 1954 at Kizhur in the outskirts of the territory.
