Coimbatore: A four-member gang attempted to rob a supervisor of a Tasmac outlet of nearly 10 lakh near Sirumugai on Monday afternoon. While they assaulted him with a sickle, local residents went to his rescue, forcing the gang to flee.
The Sirumugai police said the incident took place when as K Vijayanand, 47, supervisor of Tasmac outlet (no 1811) at Vellikuppampalayam, was heading to deposit the past two days’ collection of 9.9 lakh in a bank at Mettupalayam on his bike. A resident of Alankombu, he had taken the amount home after the business hours on Sunday.
“When he neared a private higher secondary school at Sirumugai, four unidentified men waylaid Vijayanand and assaulted him with the sickle. He suffered injuries to his elbow and raised an alarm. Immediately, local residents rushed to the spot, forcing the four to flee,” a police officer said.

In a similar incident in July, two men had attempted to rob Vijayanand of a little more than 15 lakh when he was on his way to deposit the two days' collection amount in a nationalised bank. “They stabbed him on the right shoulder and the public went to his rescue when he cried for help,” the officer said.
