COIMBATORE:
Tamil Nadu minister for information and publicity MP Saminathan on Wednesday said ongoing work to install a new shutter in place of a damaged one at the Parambikulam dam in Palakkad district of
Kerala will be completed by November 20.
One of the three shutters of the dam was damaged due to a breakage in the counterweight chain on September 21.
After inspecting work to install a new shutter, the minister said, “Work is taking place on a war footing.”
Saminathan added, "The state government has allocated Rs 7.2 crore to install a new shutter to replace the existing damaged one at the dam. So far, 5.8 TMC of water stored in the reservoir drained through the damaged shutter."
The minister said 90% of work had been completed. Maintenance work on the other two shutters is also being undertaken. “The dam will start saving rainwater once work is completed,” he said.
