Aspirants exchange words with police in Tumakuru on Tuesday
TUMAKURU: A deputy superintendent of police slapped an aspiring constable when about 100 job-seekers from various districts besieged home minister Araga Jnanendra and pleaded with him to increase the age limit for constabulary posts by two years at Government Junior College Grounds in Tumakuru on Tuesday.
The job-seekers also wanted the age limit to be relaxed as there were no recruitments for the past two years during the pandemic. They met the home minister and handed over their petition to him. Emotions ran high at the venue as several aspiring cops broke down when speaking to the minister.
Jnanendra was attending official Rajyotsava celebrations at the venue. He assured the petitioners that that he will speak to officials and look into their demand.
As Jnanendra took their petition and walked towards the stage, the job aspirants once again tried to speak to him and jostled to rush behind him. In the melee, police personnel headed by deputy superintendent of police Srinivas stopped them from meeting the home minister.
Job aspirants were told to take permission before entering venue
Srinivas told the job aspirants that they should have taken permission before entering the venue in such huge numbers.
Angered by this, a job aspirant said, "They have all the freedom to come and see the home minister and they do not require anyone's permission." Saying this, the job aspirant took out his mobile phone to videograph the happenings. An infuriated DySP Srinivas slapped the youth, who left the spot.
The job aspirants from various districts of the state are camping at Siddaganga mutt for the past few weeks and are meeting and appealing to ministers and politicians, who come to the mutt or to Tumakuru to increase the age limit for constabulary posts.
It may be recalled that they had given a petition in this regard to BY Vijayendra, state BJP vice-president and son of former chief minister BS Yediyurappa, two days ago in Tumakuru. Many of the aspirants fell at his feet, broke down and requested him to help them.
