HYDERABAD: In a relief to parents and students, the Banjara Hills school that was shut after an alleged rape of a four-year-old will now reopen on Thursday. The permission has been granted for this academic year alone.
The state education department had earlier suspended the recognition of the school following a direction from education minister Sabitha Indra Reddy on October 21.
The school, which has over 500 students, has been shut for over a fortnight since the arrest of the principal's 36-year-old driver for abusing the four-year-old girl in the premises. Subsequently, the principal too was arrested for negligence. On Tuesday, Hyderabad DEO issued an order stating that the department has decided to restore the recognition of the school only for the academic year 2022-23 in the interest of the students.
"School management is required to strictly follow the instructions of the govt," the DEO said. Also, deputy inspector of schools of Shaikpet mandal & Khairatabad Zone DEO have been asked to monitor the school.
