GREATER NOIDA: Apart from an auditorium with a seating capacity of nearly 1,700, an International Convention Centre and a guest house, the facility of over 800 rooms across three hostels, horticulture, civic and electrical works are being made ready ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Droupadi Murmu's visit to Gautam Buddha University (GBU) later this month which will host the international Indo-UNESCO-African Hackathon.
The four-day event which will be held amidst tight security arrangements from November 22 to 25 will have President Murmu as the chief guest on the inaugural day (November 22), while PM Modi will be the chief guest on November 25 for the prize distribution ceremony.
Given the high-profile political leaders expected to attend the event, a meeting of GBU officials was held on Tuesday with the district administration over security arrangements. “In the meeting, DCP Greater Noida Abhishek Verma, ADM Nitin Madan and city magistrate Dharmendra Kumar were present to draw out a plan for the 4-day event. They will make all arrangements related to the security of delegates and foreign students during the event in coordination with local police and district administration,” said Dr Vishwas Tripathi, GBU registrar .
Meanwhile, GBU has deployed teams to carry out maintenance works of the lodging and event venues on the campus. “Three teams have been formed to carry out all the maintenance work of civic (seepage, toilets, plaster, woodwork etc), electrical, horticulture and fire safety measures across the three hostels that have been identified for the lodging arrangement of international students,” said Dr Tripathi.
Around 810 rooms across the three hostels — Malik Mohammed Jayasi, Balmiki and Rahim — will be made ready in collaboration with the Greater Noida authority for international students. In these, two hostels will be for men and one for women. “So far we have received confirmation of 372 participants from 22 African nations. While the screening process for the selection of participants is still underway, around 145 women participants are expected, which include 100 from African countries and 45 from India,” said Dr Tripathi.
The event will be held during GBU’s mid-term exam preparation break, which starts on November 15, and no engagement of faculty will be required for classes during the period. However, the maintenance work began from Tuesday and is expected to be completed by November 16.
Meanwhile, the food arrangements are being looked at by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE). “For food facility, the AICTE has hired an event management team which is making all arrangements in consultation with EdCIL Limited, a public sector undertaking under the ministry of education,” said Dr Tripathi.
