Beach rescues keep lifeguards busy at Baga, Calangute
Calangute: A number of incidents involving tourists being rescued and missing children reunited with their parents were reported in Calangute and Baga over the past few days.
Baga, one of the busiest beaches in the state, witnessed the most number of incidents with eight tourists being rescued, while Calangute saw three rescues, stated Drishti lifesaving agency.
At Baga, Drishti lifesavers performed multiple rescues of four Gujarat tourists — three males and one female, all aged 19-25 years. The four were reportedly in shallow waters when one of them decided to venture into deeper waters, while rest followed behind. Soon, all four found themselves unable to move and panicked. Lifesavers rushed to their rescue and brought them back ashore.
In another incident, lifesavers performed a double rescue of two Karnataka natives, aged 24 and 28. Another 26-year-old male from Gujarat out for a swim suddenly encountered a change in the depth of the water, and lost his bearings. After noticing him struggle to swim, a lifesaver rushed to his assistance. Another Karnataka resident was rescued in similar circumstances.
Calangute, which also saw large crowds descending on its shores, had a multiple rescues involving three tourists from Maharashtra, aged 19-40 years.
Two children who had gone missing were also reunited with their families at Baga and Calangute.
