Nagpur: The Congress, and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) won in the elections held on Tuesday for the chairpersons of various committees at the zilla parishad here. Rajkumar Kusumbe, Milind Sute, Avantika Lekurwale from Congress, and NCP’s Balu alias Praveen Jodh emerged winners.
Former sports minister Sunil Kedar and Congress district president Rajendra Mulak announced the names of winners after the voting process in the House. There were many aspirants for the posts after the BJP decided to field its candidates, despite not having the required number of voters. While the grand old party received 38 votes, the saffron outfit bagged only 13 and six members skipped the voting.
Earlier, there were speculations that all four posts of chairpersons would be filled up unopposed, but the BJP fielded its candidates — Satish Dongre, Subhash Gujkar, Radha Aggarwal, Pushpa Chafale and Satish Dandare — at the last moment.
Nana Kambhale and Pritam Kaware, who raised the flag of rebellion in the elections for the ZP president and vice president, were absent along with Shiv Sena (Balasaheb) member Sanjay Zade. NCP member Salil Deshmukh and Congress member Shankar Dadmal also skipped the process. Megha Mankar, who voted for the rebels in the previous election, was present but did not vote, taking a neutral stance.
