Morbi Bridge Collapse News Live: Prime Minister Narendra Modi to visit Morbi today

Morbi Bridge Collapse News Live: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Morbi today where 134 people were killed after a suspension bridge collapsed into the Machchhu river. Modi, who is on a visit to Gujarat ahead of the state Assembly polls due this year-end, on Monday paid tributes to those who died in Sunday's bridge collapse.

Gujarat Chief Minister's office informed that PM Modi will be visiting Morbi cable bridge collapse site and also meet the victims. His all other public functions for Tuesday are cancelled.

On Sunday evening, the cable bridge collapsed in which more than 130 visitors died, including 56 children, and 76 adults. The search operation was going in the Machchhu River.

The police on war footing has started an investigation into the complaint lodged against the repair/renovation agency, agency manager as well as the management.

Police have registered an FIR on charges of culpable homicide against agencies given the task of maintenance and operation of the bridge.

The case was registered under Indian Penal Code Sections 304 (punishment for culpable homicide not amounting to murder) and 308 (attempt to commit culpable homicide).

The FIR, lodged by 'B' division police inspector Prakash Dekivadia, stated that the bridge over the Machchhu river in Morbi town was not in use for nearly eight months as the local administration had roped in a "private agency" for its maintenance.
