Dharwad: The members of the Dharwad Bar Association held a demonstration here on Monday to protest the alleged misbehaviour of a police officer against a woman advocate and blocked the road for over four hours.
The members alleged that the Dharwad rural circle police inspector, Manjunath Kusugal, had misbehaved with the woman advocate when she visited his office on October 28 to seek some information. The protestors demanded immediate arrest of the officer.
The roadblock near the Alur Venkatrao Circle disrupted traffic. The advocates said they had already registered a complaint against the officer at the suburban police station and demanded his arrest and suspension.
Senior police officers rushed to the protest spot and tried to convince the lawyers to end the protest by promising action but the advocates did not relent.
DCP (law and order) Sahil Baghla tried to speak to the officer-bearers of the Bar Association but the protestors were adamant. Finally, the protest ended only after a case was registered against the police officer.
The sudden strike and protest by the advocates threw life out of gear as people travelling to other places were stranded for hours.
