PATNA: In a shocking incident, a 24-year-old youth was allegedly thrashed to death when he went to meet his girlfriend at a Chhath ghat in Bhimalpur village under Kanti police station area of Muzaffarpur district on Sunday evening. His friend was also brutally assaulted by the crowd. He is undergoing treatment at SKMCH.
The deceased has been identified as Nihal alias Ayan, a resident of Hajm Toli on Mehdi Hassan Road under Brahmapura police station area in Muzaffarpur. The Kanti police sent the body to SKMCH for postmortem.
According to police, Ayan went to the ghat with his friend to meet his girlfriend during the evening arghya of Chhath when a large number of devotees were there to offer obeisance to the setting sun. The family members of the girl saw her with Ayan and started beating him while alleging that he was molesting the girl. The crowd gathered and started thrashing Ayan, who died on the spot.
Ayan's family members and locals blocked the road and demanded arrest of the accused.
The policemen of Brahmapura police station, Kazimuhammadpur police station, Nagar police station and Mithanpura police station reached the spot to pacify the protestors.
City DSP Raghav Dayal said the police have been investigating the case and the culprits would be arrested soon.
21-year-old stabbed: One Bullu Kumar, 21, was allegedly stabbed by his friend over some dispute near a Chhath ghat in Paramjeewar village under Hathauri police station area of Muzaffarpur district after the evening arghya late on Sunday.
SHO Alok Kumar told TOI on Monday that Bullu, the son of Chandeshwar Ram, had gone there to meet his friend Rahul Kumar Sahni after Chhath rituals on Sunday evening.
"They had a fight over some issue and Sahni stabbed him while the accused also sustained head injuries. He was admitted to SKMCH, where his condition is stated to be critical," he added.
