KOLKATA: Three persons, including a 16-year-old boy, were arrested on Monday in connection with the murder of Jakir Hossain (45), who was shot at Naihati’s Shibdaspur on Saturday night. Two firearms and three rounds of cartridges were seized from the accused.
According to police, the prime accused, Mohammad Ashabur Rahman alias Bachha, who masterminded the shooting, was picked up from a bamboo grove at Amdanga in North 24 Parganas. His two associates, Farukh Hossain and a minor boy, were arrested from a nearby hideout.
Police suspect an old rivalry over a land could have been the reason behind the murder. “According to the preliminary investigation, Hossain had prevented Bachha’s father from getting a piece of land on lease for farming,” a senior police officer said.
Bachha and Farukh have been remanded in police custody for seven days after being produced in a Barrackpore court on Monday afternoon. The minor accused has been sent to a juvenile court.
