KANPUR: The city’s Chakeri airport will soon be equipped with a night landing facility (NLF). Once functional, it would facilitate aircrafts to mark the central line of the runway from a distance of 17 nautical miles (25 kms), enabling a smooth landing. At present, the airport’s licence only allowed for daylight flight operations.
NLF would enable the plane to seek required glide angle before the touchdown point and facilitate the plane to identify the actual distance from the touchdown point through distance measuring equipment. For the landing of the flights, the visibility should be 2,500 metre. With the installation of ILS, flights can be landed at a low visibility of 1700 metres also. The Air Force will require land for this, sources said.
In fact, runway number 27 of the airport will be extended backwards by 700 meters. For this, the district administration has marked the land and sent the report to the Air Force. According to experts, the Air Force has sent this report to its headquarters. Along with the land, its circle rate has also been mentioned.
In such a situation, it is believed that the land acquisition will be allowed only after passing of the estimated budget.
“Along with marking of the land, the report has been sent to the Air Force after estimating its value. After their permission, the administration will start its acquisition-related action,” said Satendra Kumar Singh, ADM (land acquisition).
