MYSURU: Mayor Shiva Kumar on Monday directed officials of the Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) to complete all pending road repair works undertaken before and after
Dasara celebrations on a war footing. He has set a November end deadline.
He was speaking at a meeting of contractors, zonal assistant commissioners of all nine zones and assistant executive engineers at the old MCC Council Hall here.
He said that theMCC had taken up Rs 250 crore road repair, asphalting, pothole filling, shoulder drain construction and improvement of roads in the central business district, mainly around the Mysuru Palace under various grants released by the government.
As many of the road works are incomplete due to rain, MCC has been receiving several complaints from the public. He said MCC which floated tenders for Rs 250 crore for road works, has so far completed works worth Rs 100 crore. It would help MCC to get additional grants from both the state and central governments if officials complete the allotted tender works by November end, he said.
He wanted officials to maintain quality and not damage underground drainage pipelines.
As the MCC is flooded with complaints of unscientific manhole works, officials must give top priority for quality manhole works without giving any room for complaints, he said.
Some of the roads in Mysuru’s Central Businbess District (CBD), which constitute the procession route for the Jamboo Savari, had been repaired ahead of the Naada Habba, while residents cried foul over the authorities failing to take cognisance of the condition of roads in other localities of the city.
Pending billsAs many contractors at the meeting complained about a delay in clearance of their bills, the mayor directed officials to clear the bills after verifying and inspecting the spot within 48 hours of completion of road works.
He also told assistant executive engineers to submit a list of details of bills cleared by them daily.
Mysuru City Corporation commissioner Laxmikanth Reddy instructed the engineers to clear the bills after completing third party or agency inspection. He also asked contractors to inform him if their release of bills was delayed by officials.
MCC superintendent engineer Mahesh and others were present.
