Madurai Meenakshi Amman temple hundial collection crosses Rs 1.2 crore

MADURAI: The monthly hundial collection at Sri Meenakshi Sundareswarar Temple in Madurai and its 11 satellite temples crossed Rs 1.2 crore.
According to an official statement, the counting of the hundial collection was held on Monday in the presence of A Arunachalam, deputy commissioner/executive officer, Sri Meenakshi Sundareswarar Temple, and other officials from the temple and the Hindu religious & charitable endowments (HR&CE) department.
The total hundial collection was Rs 1.20 crore in cash, 0.54 gram of gold articles, 3.28 kg of silver articles and 323 foreign currency notes
The hundial collection of Sri Meenakshi Sundareswarar Temple is usually higher during festival seasons. Previously, the hundial collection was over Rs 1.56 crore in cash when counting was done on May 11, around the time of the ‘Chithirai festival’.
At the Sri Dhandayuthapaniswamy Temple in Palani, where the Kandha Sashti festival was held recently, the monthly hundial collection was nearly Rs 3.5 crore in cash. Apart from cash, 1,323 gram of gold articles, 25,047 gram of silver articles and 884 foreign currency notes were also collected. The counting of the hundial collection was done on October 26 and October 27 in the presence of temple and HR&CE department officials.
